DJAARA has plans to return Djandak Wi within Paddys Ranges State Forest, north of Maryborough. The return of Wi to this area is part of a resurgence of traditional burning practices that is occurring across Djandak (Dja Dja Wurrung Country), an area that Dja Dja Wurrung showing strong leadership through a partnership with Fire Forest Management Victoria.

Paddy’s Ranges State Forest is one 6 Parks which Dja Dja Wurrung have Aboriginal Title over and was handed back through the Recognition and Settlement Agreement with the State Government of Victoria. Many places on Djandak such as Paddy’s Ranges State Forest have out of balance fire regimes and Dja Dja Wurrung say that Wi murrup (spirit) is unhappy, and that until Wi is returned murrup will not be happy.
